April 2026 at the Deming Art Center will feature the wonderful designs and innovative creations of the Deming High School art students. It is always exciting to see what they have created, and we invite the community to support these young artists by stopping by to see for yourselves. The exhibit will be up from April 2 – 29, 2026. There will be a time to meet these talented student artists on Sunday, April 5, 2026, from 1-2:30PM at the Deming Art Center which is located at 100 S. Gold St., Deming, NM. The gallery hours are 10AM – 4PM Monday – Friday and 10AM – 1PM on Saturday. Drs. Margo Tamez, Cynthia Bejarano, and Jeffrey Shepherd present their new book, Gathering Together, We Decide: Archives of Dispossession, Resistance, and Memory in Ndé Homelands (The University of Arizona Press). Produced in response to the U.S. Government's takeover of Indigenous and familial land for a portion of the border wall, this book highlights an archive of resistance work including: scholarly analyses, testimonios, artwork, legal briefs, poetry, and other cultural productions. The editors of this series will discuss this important collection of work produced by Ndé leaders, Indigenous elders, settler-allies, Native youth, and others associated with the Tamez family. This lecture is part of the NMSU Faculty Lectures @ the Library series put on by the NMSU Library

Learn about the people who make the Farm and Ranch Museum the great cultural institution that it is! All while enjoying a cup of coffee and some baked goodies. This month, Donna Wojcik, the Museum archivist, talks about her work to preserve the history of farming and ranching in New Mexico, as well as the resources that are available for public use in the Museum Resource Room. Author Talk by Sen Bill Soules. Politics in not for the faint of heart. Understanding how political maneuvering and decision making really works is vital for citizens who care about (and want to advocate for) their communities. Senator Soules will be discussing his book, “The Sausage Factory” sharing insights about how vital policy and spending decisions are made. It contains lessons on how to interact with the people who are “making the sausage.” With a dash of some lighthearted humor to keep things fun.
Dr. Megan Metcalf speaks on Jamie Isenstein's exhibition “Cameo”, on view now at the University Art Museum. Dr. Metcalf teaches contemporary art history in the Department of Art at NMSU. She has previously held positions at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, UCLA, ArtCenter College of Art and Design, and Otis College of Art and Design. Her first book, Collecting Choreography: Simone Forti and Performance in the Contemporary Art Museum, will be published by University of California (UC) Press in January 2027.
